 Community Outreach

Our CRIS Community Service mission is to spread love and goodwill and provide service to not so advantaged children, young people and communities in the Chiang Rai region. Our Community Service elective was set up and is co-ordinated by Secondary Social Studies teacher Jon Danby in August 2014. In the past we have performed in musical therapy concerts for the children at the Special Education Centre, a music and dance concert for local not so advantaged teenagers, partnered in clothes and other items donation drives for hill tribe communities and partnered with the Red Cross in fundraising for international disaster relief, education and awareness of social justice issues and blood donation drives.

February 2016 A MAGICAL EVENING! ‘The Dreamers’ (CRIS Secondary Community Services Performers) shined in entertaining not so advantaged students from the Ayui Foundation and Destiny Rescue with music, song, dance and delicious home made food.

Dear CRIS Community,
We are again holding a DONATION DRIVE This is in partnership with the Ayui Foundation, which is a local home for disadvantaged Akha students, which will help local in-need children in the Chiang Rai community . We are requesting any spare, unused, second-hand clothes (especially small childrens’ and babies’), shoes, bedding (blankets and sheets), towels and any other soft goods. In addition, we are also looking for educational supplies, books, toys, games, sports equipment and any other hard goods. They can be placed in the donation bins that are located next to the water taps near the school gate. We appreciate your donations.

May 2015 The CRIS community raised 10833 baht to assist people affected by the devastating Nepalese Earthquakes. The donation drive was led by the Community Service elective students and funds donated to the Chiang Rai Chapter of the Red Cross.


April 2015 The CRIS community raised 5650 baht to assist people in need in Nepal due to the devastating earthquake there. Well done to the Grade 9-11 Community Service elective students who led the donation drive. The funds were donated to the Thai Red Cross Chiang Rai Chapter office at the Governor’s Residence that afternoon. There are donation boxes in the mini-mart and admin offices if you can help the cause.


February 2015.The  CRIS Community Service Elective students went to the Special Education Center to observe and see how we may best help the children. They took it upon themselves to perform an impromtu performance of singing, playing music and dancing for the children to join in as part of their musical therapy session. Congratulations to Minjung, Sohui An, Belle, Lydia, May, 한나오 Hanna, Steve, Hayoung, 노예영, Dave, Yeyoung and Jiyoung for their confidence and initiative.

From the Ayui Foundation Newsletter January 2015 ‘Visitors included the six students from the Community Service elective class at the Chiang Rai International School (CRIS), located in our community. Their teacher, Jon Danby, brought his students in one weekend to meet the Ayui children and have a cultural exchange. After that, everybody walked over to CRIS for a soccer game. The class was invited to join our annual clothes donation and set up a collection bin for old clothes and toys at their school.
